What paid versus organic visibility monitoring can and cannot tell you

Monitoring records what a surface returned. It does not record why that surface returned it, who paid for it, or what a person did afterward.

What it can tell you

What it cannot tell you

A fictional example

This example is invented to show the method. It is not a client result.

On one captured query, “insurance near the river,” the Google page returns a sponsored result for Northline Agency and an unpaid local result for Harbor Mutual. ChatGPT names Harbor Mutual and links its site. Gemini names neither.

A monitor can report that. It cannot say Northline outspent Harbor, that Harbor’s vendor earned the ChatGPT mention, or that either placement produced a policy. Those are different questions, and they need different evidence.
